WHO ARE WE?
We are a group of people interested in the history of our local District.
HISTORICAL REVIEW
This Journal is published in May and November of each year. It is held in high regard internationally, with several overseas libraries and educational institutes paying a subscription to receive the ‘Historical Review’. The journal is posted to all financial members as part of their annual subscription.
FIELD TRIPS
We aim to hold at least four field trips to places of historical interest each year.
OUR AIMS
• To promote, foster and maintain a public appreciation of all aspects of cultural and historic heritage, with a particular focus on the human history of the Eastern Bay of Plenty.
• To encourage historical research, and to provide for the recording and publication of such research.
SOCIETY TALKS
We aim to hold at least four meetings each year, offering a featured Guest Speaker and a chance for some social interaction.

NEW PUBLICATION – MAKETU HISTORY
The Whakatane & District Historical Society has published a Monograph on the history of Maketu.
This is compiled of all the thoroughly researched articles written by well-known historian Alister Matheson and published in the Society’s journal Historical Review.
