Field Trip to Ruatoki 10:00am Sunday 18th September
- Te Kai Whakaora (St Saviour’s Church)
- Tauarau Marae
- Ruatoki Mission House
We are invited to attend the regular church service at
Te Kai Whakaora (St Saviour’s) at 10:00am
Meet at 327 Ruatoki Valley Road, 9:45am sharp
Soak up the ambiance of this historic church opened on April 19th 1914 in the name of St. Saviour’s. The interior of the church is very effective.
The sanctuary arch is covered with Maori carving and lined with beautiful tukutuku panels.
After the service we will be given a history of the church and then we will be welcomed onto the marae and given lunch.
(Please bring Koha and give to Robert prior to the welcome)
After lunch we will visit the Ruatoki Mission House which was formally opened in October 1921. It differed from other mission houses in that as well as being a centre for mission work it was also a home where Maori girls, aged about 4-14, were cared for and taught the Christian faith.
