Whakatane & District Historical Society Event
Field Trip To The Toatoa And Takaputahi Valley
On Saturday 23rd March Whakatane & District Historical Society members visited the Toa Toa valley east of Opotiki .
The outing was led by Felicity Barry, who grew up there in the 1950’s. Felicity and Eru Koopu, who was Felicity’s neighbour and school mate, pointed out different farms and talked about different points of interest.
We had lunch at the Toa Toa Hall, now disused. We also saw the disused school next door to the hall. We enjoyed the stunning scenery. The valley has changed quite a bit since Felicity’s time.
